Indroducing Cyber Times with Pokémon Go from Niantic, Inc.

By Howard Berenbon

It's the rage, Pokémon GO from Niantic, Inc., just released as a free mobile game for the iPhone, Apple products and Android devices. Go anywhere in a big or small city, like Central Park, New York City, Chicago, Los Angelas, downtown Detroit, you name it, you'll see young and more young ( and some older) roaming the sidewalk and streets look for Pokémon hotspots. It's everywhere and everyone is doing it. It's crazy.

My two adult daughters are picking up Pokémon while we're driving, at restaurants, on the way home from work or a night out. They're collecting Pokemon monsters, or whatever, fighting to win and getting prizes. And it's all mobile in real time. Looking at their phone displays and I see Pokémon popping up in our backyard, on the table at dinner, on my shoes, and walking in a mall. You catch them and then you can fight for prizes like any other games except, it's in real time and in real space characters superimposed in your surrounds. It's just amazing.

If you haven't been hit by the GO bug, you need to try it. Go to the Apple iTunes store or if you have an Android, stop at the Google Play store and download your game. As you play, you will climb up the levels, at least that's what my older daughter tells me, and she's loving it! Personally, I am afraid to try Pokémon GO, because I may get hooked, and I don't have the time to skip my working, writing and other related obligations. If I do try, you may see me roaming Central Park with my head down into my phone ignoring nature's beauty. That's technology for your. Let me know your experience with the game, if you can break away and send me a tweet, or e-mail.

Here's the description from Apple iTunes. Just reading this might get you hooked for good!

iTunes Description for Pokémon GO

Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, Pikachu, and many other Pokémon have been discovered on planet Earth! Now’s your chance to discover and capture the Pokémon all around you—so get your shoes on, step outside, and explore the world. You’ll join one of three teams and battle for the prestige and ownership of Gyms with your Pokémon at your side.
